Melt and Pour Vegan Soap: Hail to Vegetable Glycerin

Soap is a salt of a fatty acid and a surfactant that can be derived from different oils of both plant and animal origin. A lot of soaps you can find in the stores will contain sodium tallowate (beef fat) or petroleum based products, like gasoline and kerosene. And even if it is based on high quality plant oils, it will probably contain a few artificial preservatives, colorants and aromas, and in most cases it was tested on animals. That's why I opted out for a handmade soap, which popularity is growing so rapidly now and it is understandable, as more and more people become conscious about their habits, health, and the health of our planet.

Making Handmade soap from scratch requires a lot of equipment, so, being a nomad, I'm not quite there yet... However I found a nice and healthy solution. I made this soap with Glycerin Soap Base that I bought from a French supplier committed to the One Voice Association against testing on animals. It's vegan, environmentally friendly and organic. This natural soap base is made from coconut and palm oils of organic crops and can be enriched with Vegetable Oils, Butters and Essential Oils of your taste and needs. Its lather is very soft and gentle, not as rich as from the soap you can find in the stores, so I usually use a wash cloth or a sponge to help to get more lather. Below you can find some examples of the soap I made:

Rose Soap with Geranium, Apricot Oil and Pink Clay

The soap has a gentle foam and a slight exfoliating effect due to the Red Clay that has very strong absorbing and purifying properties.

Egypt Geranium has a wonderful floral scent and has a great regenerating and antibacterial effect on the skin.

The Soap will be a great decoration for your bathroom and will leave our skin soft and smooth.
