PLEIN AIR PAINTING WORKSHOP

What is Plein Air (Outdoor) Impressionism?

Plein Air (from  French; meaning outdoors) is the act of painting outdoors. This method contrasts with studio painting or academic rules that might create a predetermined look. Artists have long painted outdoors, but in the mid-19th century, working in natural light became particularly important to many schools, especially to Impressionists.

Impressionist artists tried to convey their own impressions from the surrounding world as accurately as possible - for the sake of this goal they abandoned the existing academic rules of painting and created their own, excellent method.  The essence of Impressionism is the transfer of light, shadow, and reflections on the surface of objects by means of separate smears of pure colors.  Claude Monet wrote about his work: "My merit is that I wrote directly from nature, trying to convey my impressions of the most unstable and volatile phenomena". In our classes you will feel like a real Impressionist artists!
